Dr. Bill Fling

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. William E. Fling has established multiple veterinary hospitals, and currently operates the Symmes Square Pet Hospital (formerly known as Cord Animal Hospital). Dr. Fling attended The Ohio State University and obtained an undergraduate degree in Nutrition. Soon after, Dr. Fling entered The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

In 1995 he moved to California to join Banfield Pet Hospitals. In 2000 he accepted the opportunity to buy his family’s farm in Ohio. Dr. Fling moved back to Hillsboro, OH in 2003 and built his new home. He fixed up the family farm and old timber frame barn that was built in the late 1800s by his great grandfather, A.J. Fling. Dr. Fling is the fourth generation to own this farm.

Dr. Fling converted his home into a Bed and Breakfast, where he hosts wedding receptions, family and class reunions, private parties and corporate events. On weekends where there are no private events, the farm hosts the best music in town.

Dr. Fling is a pilot, musician, entrepreneur and veterinarian. He enjoys antiques, motorcycles, ATV’s, entertaining, and working on the farm.

Dr. Joseph Tomes, DVM

Dr. Joseph Tomes was born and raised in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky . He was introduced to veterinary medicine at an early age by his sister’s husband, who was a large animal veterinarian. He rode along on many farm calls in the early 1970’s. In 1984 he left home for West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology.

In 1988 he was accepted into the professional program at The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed the program and become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1992.

Married in 1984, he followed his wife and her parents to Florida where he practiced small animal medicine for 23 years. He owned a companion animal practice from 2002-2009 and served as Medical Director and Board member for the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter, FL.

Dr. Tomes moved back to the Cincinnati area in 2014 and currently resides in Mason, OH with his wife, Debbi, and their two children, Alex and Emma. They share their home with a Boxer named Arya, two cats, a rabbit and aquarium fish.

Janice Lara, Certified Veterinary Assistant

Janice was born and raised in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. A love for animals has always been a part of Janice’s life.

For two years she studied Biology with a minor in Marine Biology. While studying, she volunteered for a year in the Manatee Conservation Center of Puerto Rico. In her pursuit to aid their conservation, she received her certification in advanced scuba diving.

In 2012, she was awarded her Certification of Veterinary Assistance in Caguas, P.R. Three years later, Janice moved to Cincinnati.

Janice is continuing her education in this field. She is studying to become a Registered Veterinarian Technician in the State of Ohio.

She loves to spoil everyone’s pets as if they were her own!

Lauren Lutton-Freeman, Assistant

Lauren is native to Ohio, specifically from the Southern Hills! She graduated from Wilmington College with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work.

Lauren has had a passion for animals since she was a small child, a passion which continues as an adult.

Lauren rescued her rowdy four-legged family members. She has three dogs: Jaxson, a Golden Retriever; Rigby, a Catahoula; and Ziva Diva, a Boxer mix. Her feline friend is named Luca Brasi.

When you don’t see her in the office, you can find her on the trails riding one of her three horses: Cracklin’ Rosie, Samson or Onyx.
